Evolving Landscapes: Changed Trend, Challenges, and Opportunities for Integrated Skill Development in TESOL

Abstract

English has become one of the most important and dominant international lingua francas. In rapid integration age, the current context intertwined with globalization and artificial intelligence has been revised and retouched constantly. Under such circumstances, the development of comprehensive skills in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is experiencing unprecedented transformations on an unprecedented scale. This paper aims to have a clear review of changing trends, challenges, and opportunities in TESOL by analyzing relevant literature. The purpose of this review is to provide a clearer picture of the current research landscape in language teaching and facilitate better understanding of future research directions. Since educational environments become increasingly digitalized and cross-cultural, TESOL instruction is no longer confined to the traditional segregated training of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, the educational environments become increasingly digitalized and cross-cultural. It places greater emphasis on the organic integration and synergistic development of multiple skills in authentic or virtual cross-cultural contexts. The emerging trend of using AI assisted language learning tools has created favorable conditions for personalized learning path design, instant feedback provision, and easy access to language resources, which also puts forward higher requirements for teachers' digital literacy, curriculum adaptability, and instructional design. Hence,a deep understanding of learners' cultural background and discourse practice can help educators build more culturally responsive teaching methods.
